Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML)

The Council of Mortgage Lenders is one of the more well known trade associations, as they produce a lot of information about mortgages that is utilised by the press. They believe that their members cover approx 94% of lending to the residential mortgage market. As with all trade associations, they promote good lending practices, issues regarding complaints against members and lots of good information about the size of the market, different types of lending, such as buy to let mortgages.

The Benefits?
Mortgage lenders do not have to be a member of this organisation, but it must be regulated by the FSA. However those mortgage lenders that belong to the CML will be kept up to speed with the market, and shows they have some care with regards to consumer service.
