Top Ten Dos and Don'ts when Buying Overseas:-

1. Do spend time in the area - outside of holiday season - that you are considering moving to/buying in.

2. Don't buy or put down a deposit on a property unless you have visited the area and property concerned.

3. Do check the price that you are being charged - is it the same price the locals can pay?

4. Don't rely on one legal company to carry out the buying process, use a local AND international, English-speaking legal company.

5. Do make sure you talk to a currency exchange specialist as they are often cheaper than your bank.

6. Don't underestimate the costs to buy and own a property abroad.

7. Do make sure you know how long it would take and how much it cost to sell the property.

8. Don't use anyone but reputable agents to buy/sell and rent your property through.

9. Do take specialist property tax advice BEFORE you buy.

10. Don't flout the laws in another country - it could cost you dearly.
