Belvoir Rental Index for December 09

Monthly figures released by Belvoir, one of the UK’s largest independent specialist lettings agencies, show a slight drop in the average rent achieved in December 2009. The Belvoir rental index is produced at the beginning of each month and represents the average rent achieved across all of the group’s 140 offices from the North of Scotland through England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is not a London weighted figure.

“The Belvoir rental index figures for December 2009 shows that the average rental figure achieved nationally was £680, representing a small fall on the November figure, which was £684,” confirms CEO, Mike Goddard.

“This small fall can probably be attributed to a seasonal dip, which may be explained by the relatively low volume of transactions in December compared to the rest of the year. The Belvoir rental index also compares figures achieved by its offices for the same month last year and in December 2008 the average rental achieved was £699, revealing an annual reduction of 2.7%.”

Belvoir's Index reflects the rest of the lettings market and is likely that this is a seasonal slowdown as rents are expected to go up by 5-10% this year.
